Bug Description

i did not find a place on launchpad where suggestions for the improvement of documentation could be reported. i am not yet experienced enough with ubuntu that i want to edit in the wiki, but as a beginner i see points where not enough documentation is available (or the documentation is not clear) and beginners spend time and get frustrated about 'stupid questions' (e.g. i did not find a place where it is clearly stated that ubuntu supports out of the box only WEP for WLAN).

----

This means that Launchpad should have a site-wide search (bug 3153), but it also means that <https://launchpad.net/products/ubuntu-doc> should contain more explicit information on how to contribute.

Can you give the URL of a page where you'd expect to find information about contributing to the documentation? Did you find <https://launchpad.net/products/ubuntu-doc> during your previous search? If so, was it helpful?

Thank you. Your answer fixed my problem. This was the missing link.

I did not realize that the documentation was considered a product (perhaps
you put a hint on the home page. There I followed the link bugs - and found
no hint for documentation.

I hope you can see a way to improve this.
Thank you for your effort.

Subject: [Bug 76016] Re: reporting of documentation missing

Andrew, Launchpad hosts many projects, not just Ubuntu, and even Ubuntu has
many many subprojects, documentation being just one of them.
However, it's likely that maintainers of software in Launchpad (including
Ubuntu) haven't thought much about how to use it to attract contributors
like yourself.

Can you give the URL of a page where you'd expect to find information about
contributing to the documentation? Did you find
<https://launchpad.net/products/ubuntu-doc> during your previous search?
If so, was it helpful?

I'm not sure if need that info in here[1] as well (referred to by the offline documentation using System > Help > About Ubuntu > Participate in Ubuntu)

We don't have any page on launchpad, do we?

I quote (Dapper's) offline help page on "Participate in Ubuntu":
"You don't have to be a software developer to help improve Ubuntu. You can participate by translating Ubuntu into your own language, test it on desktops, laptops, and servers, help improve the Ubuntu web site with guides and tips for users, answer questions on the forum or mailing lists, contribute artwork, and more. Any contribution, big or small, will shape the future of Ubuntu for all of us. To find out how to participate, visit this <webpage>!"

The <webpage> is http://www.ubuntu.com/community/participate/ , which seems to be part of ubuntu-website (upstream). If they can add some reference to "filing bugs for documentation" to section 5, would this be fixed?

If yes (and if my assumption on ubuntu-website is correct), I think it would be better to close this one and send this to ubuntu-website , what do you think?
