Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-netbook-default-settings

I tried to upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 beta.
This failed, as it could not download a file from the nl.archive... location.

But after a reboot, I had a half 10.10.

Each time I tried sudo apt-get upgrade, it got stuck, with a failure of running this package.

at the end, I could get arround it, but running the update-manager, instead. (this was done twice....)

But really an annoying error.

PS I must inform you, that my install on the asus eeepc 1005 was not up to date, as there where problems with wifi, not working with default install.

find below the exact error:

Thanks for you report and help to make ubuntu better.

Can you please try to see if you have /usr/bin/dpkg-maintscript-helper on your system?
if so, can you ls -l /usr/bin/dpkg-maintscript-helper

Also dpkg -l dpkg will help there.

Do you have a particular sudo configuration? It seems you don't have /usr/bin in your PATH as root. (to find dpkg-maintscript-helper in your configuration script).

Can you try LANG=C dpkg-reconfigure ubuntu-netbook-default-settings?
setting as incomplete for now as I don't have any info to figure what's going on (all others updates seems to be ok)

sure, that won't change, but can you try just running:

and
$ sudo -s

thanks :)

you should check your sudo configuration. It's not the standard one:
$ sudo dpkg-maintscript-helper
should show the syntax help.

That means that /usr/bin isn't in your sudo path for whatever reason, please check on forum to fix you /etc/sudoers (I guess your issues comes from that). Marking it as invalid then.

This bug also affects me. It may be filed under the wrong place, but an upgrade of 10.04 to 10.10 should work without a problem. IF there is an issue with the sudoers file, then it is an issue with the 10.04 file. Maybe this package should predepend on a newer version of sudo?

My sudo config is the default config that came with 10.04. Sudo has been upgraded to 10.10's version (1.7.2p7-1ubuntu2 at the time I'm writing this).
