Also completely borked in amd64. It would be nice to get this fixed prior to release.

Just in case someone does not know what a cups browser page is:

Thenk you all for your postings of the dnssd output. I have found the problem now: It is caused by UTF-8 characters in the printer descriptions of remote CUPS queues, especially from Mac OS X systems.

This prevents the new printer wizard of system-config-printer to work at all if there is somewhere a CUPS queue in the network which uses UTF-8 characters in the printer description. This is nearly always the case if there are Mac OS X machines. Even local printers cannot get installed then. One can also see on the number of duplicates that this bug is of high impact. Therefore I am raising the importance of this bug and propose it as a freeze exception for Karmic.

The fix (patch attached) is a one-liner, no risk of regressions.

Prevent a crash when listing discovered printer devices in the new
printer wizard. The crash happened when their are CUPS queues from
Mac OS X systems with UTF-8 characters broadcasted via DNS-SD and
picked up by the local dnssd CUPS backend. This made setting up
print queues impossible whenthere was a Mac somewhere in the network.

I have just validated that I now print without error. Thanks for the
awesome work. Some change in the last 2 days of updates resolved the
issue.
