Hi froverio,

Care to do a quick test. The latest Alpha5 for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex was just released. I'd like to know if this will still be an issue with the upcoming release. It has an updated 2.6.27 kernel. You should be able to test using a LiveCD - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/alpha5 . Please let us know your results. Thanks.

And on Gusty 7.10 32 bits kernel 2.6.22.14-generic it's same. Perhaps my network card is not fully qualified.

Hi froverio,

Per the kernel team's bug policy, can you please attach the following information. Please be sure to attach each file as a separate attachment.

* cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
* dmesg > dmesg.log
* sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log

For more information regarding the kernel team bug policy, please refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies .

I myslef do not see this issue here on my system:

ogasawara@emiko:~$ cat /proc/version_signature
Ubuntu 2.6.27-10.20-generic
ogasawara@emiko:~$ cat /sys/class/net/eth0/statistics/tx_bytes
23130280

Thanks again and we appreciate your help and feedback.

After researching your problem, it appears that the driver you are using is from 2.6.28 which is too recent for inclusion in intrepid.
There is a bug as you describe in the early versions of that driver.
Please clarify where the driver came from so we can proceed with
a solution.

This patch is copied from the upstream atl2 driver patch in upstream

commit e2f092ff9bf2ab515c14d2208b5f08c7d389d5d2. It is *not*
this patch since the ubuntu/atl2 driver is of different vintage.

The necessary patch is already in Jaunty 2.6.28

Hi froverio,

It would helpful if you (or anyone else using the atl2 driver hit by this bug) could test the kernel in intrepid-proposed and verify that /sys/class/net/eth0/statistics/tx_bytes is reporting information. Thanks!

The verification that /sys/class/net/eth0/statistics/tx_bytes is reporting information is OK on my intrepid 64 Bit fresh install after a intrepid-proposed update.

froverio@desktop:~$ cat /sys/class/net/eth0/statistics/tx_bytes
