Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution
uploaded to -proposed:
 evolution (2.30.3-1ubuntu7.1) maverick-proposed; urgency=low
 .
   * debian/patches/89_express.patch:
     - listen to gconf for calendar view to pick changed settings from the
calendar preference dialog (LP: #663787, #649543)
   * debian/rules:
     - remove --disable-pst-import (wrongly kept during latest merge)
as we want the plugin to import outlook pst file (LP: #670747)

Test case:
1. install the new version from maverick-proposed
2. check that the pst plugin is present and activated
3. try to import a pst file

----------------

Since upgrading Ubuntu from 10.04 (Lucid) to 10.10 (Maverick) the importing of pst-files (addressbook, calendar, email) does not work anymore: Select import from File menu -> select Import a single file -> File type is greyed out when choosing a pst file and cannot be selected. I tried different pst-files, old and new ones, from different computers, but it still won't let you go forward.
It works with csv-files, others I haven't tested yet.

Thank you for your bug report,

Debian has this changelog entry:
" - don't build pstimport plugin since we don't have libpst in Debian."

the rules has: --disable-pst-import

Didier, is that a merge error, did you forgot to drop the configure option? The build-depends and the .install still suggest pst-import should be shipped

Thank you very much for working on this. I have used this function very often.
Is the test case instruction for me? Shall I install the proposed evolution from https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/maverick/evolution/maverick-proposed?

Yes, the testcase if for you :)

Just wait for evolution 2.30.3-1ubuntu7.1 to be accepted in maverick-proposed and install it from there, please. (it's not yet accepted, nor built).

Thanks! I haven't installed something yet from a proposed branch and haven't found a instruction on the net. May you help me with step-by-step instruction. Thanks for your patience.

I think I found a way:
Repositories (or Software sources)>Updates and there I could click "pre-released updates (maverick-proposed)".
As I haven't found evolution 2.30.3-1ubuntu7.1 (only 2.30.3-1ubuntu7 which is installed), I remembered your "not yet accepted, nor built". What is the approximate time frame to be built, so I know when I should check again?

Accepted evolution into maverick-proposed, the package will build now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

Import of emails and calendar works, however contacts either do not get imported or evolution address book crashes the entire application. Tasks also not imported...

Thanks for the new version. Finally I have to test it (after moving house :-). The pst import plugin in is now present. Unfortunately it does not work for me, either. Evolution crashes even after I try to start the import of calendar or contacts ... Do you need further information for this crucial tool?

Tested and it works (mail only).

Users also need to enable the plugin after upgrading from maverick-proposed. Enable the plugin in Evolution under Edit > Plugins > Outlook PST import. Restart Evolution and you can now import a Outlook PST file.

Thanks!

Anybody working on the problem to import contacts and calendar? Or do I have to open a new bug thread?
I don't understand that it worked with previous versions of evolution, although not perfectly (see bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evolution/+bug/491787 and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/491786), but at least I could import the most important information. I already wait more than 2 years that this import tool would work properly, some other previous Microsoft user, too.

Hello! Anybody out there?
With a lot of work I could import the outlook addressbook (csv - Windows, re-organized the column order with OpenOffice) into Evolution, but no success with the outlook XP calendar! When I select a calendar-pst-file and want to start the import process, evolution crashes.
PLEASE work on this import function and give a good other solution (some trials via thunderbird did not work).

Import of mails seems to work (see earlier posts), but calendar and addressbook still NOT. Perhaps this problem can be looked at in a new bug report?
