Bug Description

medium: screen
platform: Linux ubuntu 2.6.32-24-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Thu Aug 19 01:38:40 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
application: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100723 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.8
a description of the problem: asymmetry with hintstyle full and medium

asymmetry appears when hinting is medium or full, and only at 18px size (checked from 12px to 23px).
May be its a duplicate of "Bug #619951" (https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu-font-family/+bug/619951)

I'm not convinced that it is a dup of bug #619951. The misalignment is clearly there, but the question is what is causing it... the font renders fine when unhinted, but as the hints come in some dimensions are changing whilst others aren't.

In the layout, the 'A' character and accent are minutely off centre, but only ever so fractionally, I can't understand how this would get multiplied up.

Either way, the interaction between the metadata and the Freetype hinting styles *is* there, and if it doesn't happen in other fonts, then it would point to a bug in the Ubuntu Font Family hinting code. As a simple test, please confirm (ideally with a screenshot) that the same is not happening with eg. Deja Vu Sans at the same range of sizes and hint settings.
