Bug Description

Binary package hint: mplayer

From Lucid:

$ mencoder -ovc help
MEncoder SVN-r1.0~rc3+svn20090426-4.4.3 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team

Available codecs:
   copy - frame copy, without re-encoding. Doesn't work with filters.
   frameno - special audio-only file for 3-pass encoding, see DOCS.
   raw - uncompressed video. Use fourcc option to set format explicitly.
   nuv - nuppel video
   lavc - libavcodec codecs - best quality!
   xvid - XviD encoding
   x264 - H.264 encoding

$ mencoder -oac help
MEncoder SVN-r1.0~rc3+svn20090426-4.4.3 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team

Available codecs:
   copy - frame copy, without re-encoding (useful for AC3)
   pcm - uncompressed PCM audio
   mp3lame - cbr/abr/vbr MP3 using libmp3lame
   lavc - FFmpeg audio encoder (MP2, AC3, ...)

From Maverick:

$ mencoder -ovc help
MEncoder 1.0rc3-4.4.4 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team

Available codecs:
   copy - frame copy, without re-encoding. Doesn't work with filters.
   frameno - special audio-only file for 3-pass encoding, see DOCS.
   raw - uncompressed video. Use fourcc option to set format explicitly.
   nuv - nuppel video
   lavc - libavcodec codecs - best quality!

$ mencoder -oac help
MEncoder 1.0rc3-4.4.4 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team

Available codecs:
   copy - frame copy, without re-encoding (useful for AC3)
   pcm - uncompressed PCM audio
   lavc - FFmpeg audio encoder (MP2, AC3, ...)

It would appear the maverick package is missing libmp3lame-dev, libx264-dev, and libxvidcore-dev in the Build-Depends, but I can't find mention of it in the changelog, so it's not obvious if this is deliberate.

I meant mplayer, x264, lame and xvidcore. I think all of them actually
belong in universe, not multiverse.

after rechecking, x264 is already in universe, and I see no reason why
lame, xvidcore and mplayer should not also be there.

WDYT?

I don't know the exact reason they are currently in multiverse, but if you would like to get them moved to universe, you probably should bring this up to the tech board for them to decide.

Why do you think this is a decision to make by the TB and not by the
archive admins?
