Binary package hint: byobu
Some people have raised a concern about Byobu bringing in too many recommended packages.
The current list is:
Depends: ${misc:Depends}, debconf (>= 0.5) | debconf-2.0, screen, gettext-base, python, python-newt (>= 0.52.2-11)
Recommends: update-
Suggests: apport, vim, w3m, po-debconf
Of these, both of the recommends can be dropped to suggests (update-
* update-
* lsb-release: helps to determine the release name (if not present, it uses /etc/release)
Of the dependencies,
* debconf: needed for the debconf launch-by-default question
* screen: obviously, provides the raw functionality
* gettext-base: needed for translations
* python, python-newt: needed for the byobu-config curses configuration menu
