Bug Description

Binary package hint: qutim

If using gmail jabber, then

Debug: 0x0008: "This is gloox 1.0, connecting to gmail.com:-1..."
Critical: 0x0004: "Client is configured to require TLS but either the server didn't offer TLS or TLS support is not compiled in."

If I use qutim from http://ppa.launchpad.net/qutim/qutim/ubuntu, then all OK.

SRU information:
Impact: Affects all users connecting to TLS-encrypted Jabber servers, such as Google Talk. Makes them unable to connect.
Addressed in Maverick: By build-depending on libgnutls-dev and building the Jabber plugin with GNUTLS=1.
Regression potential: None. The patch does not affect functionality already present in the Lucid version.

TEST CASE:
1. Open the new account wizard in qutim.
2. Select Jabber.
3. Enter a Gmail/Google Talk username (<email address hidden>) and password.
4. Finish the wizard.

Expected behavior (seen in Maverick and with the lucid-proposed patch): qutim successfully connects to Google Talk.
Actual behavior (in Lucid): An error popup is displayed.

Fixed in Maverick in 0.2.0-0ubuntu4. Going to make an SRU for Lucid, since it's serious breakage.

Is that a regression from karmic or earlier? This basically enables a new feature which was not tested before, and as such has quite a high regression potential.

qutim wasn't in karmic - it was removed, and then reintroduced in lucid.

However, GnuTLS is enabled in upstream PPA builds, and upstream is now blaming me for broken Jabber support in lucid and asking me to do something about it. This new functionality won't affect existing connections, only those users who are configuring new accounts.

Accepted qutim into lucid-proposed, the package will build now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

SRU Verification Lucid:

I have reproduced the problem with qutim 0.2.0-0ubuntu3 and have verified that the version of qutim 0.2.0-0ubuntu3.1 in proposed fixes the issue.
I have verified that qutim starts, that the user is authenticated and can talk.

Marking as verification-done
