Bug Description

Binary package hint: mplayer

1) karmic, 9.10
2) mplayer:
  Installerad: 2:1.0~rc3+svn20090426-1ubuntu9
  Kandidat: 2:1.0~rc3+svn20090426-1ubuntu9
3) I expected to view a video without the screen going blank every once in a while.
4) Screensaver activated after set time, but mplayer used to disable xscreensaver while running.

When running mplayer from a terminal there used to be a message that read something like "disabling gnome xscreensaver", there is no such message anymore. I tested with the option "-stop-xscreensaver", the mesage is still not there. I did not wait to see if screensaver is actually disabled with that option.

I have that Mplayer version on Karmic (2:1.0~rc3+svn20090426-1ubuntu10) and the bug stills here.

please file a new bug using the ubuntu-bug tool. I'd like to have a look
at the additional information that is attached with that tool.

The bug is not there for me anymore, with the new version (2:1.0~rc3+svn20090426-1ubuntu10)

Bug #468721 was filed according to the request of siretard. On November 01 the bug is still there.

At the moment I use the nvidia-vdpau ppa, and that repo has it's own
mplayer-package (2:1.0~rc3+svn20090620~karmic~ppa4), which is to the
best of my knowledge unpatched regarding screensaver and font dirs (bug
#448603).

The 2:1.0~rc3+svn20090426-1ubuntu10 version works as expected for me.

Just updated it, and bug is still there. I've also compiled from source and bug is there. Added the disable-xscreens... to command line and config file, and bug is there. It was NOT there in Ubuntu 9.04. INCREDIBLE!!! No developper paying attention to this? Then why continue releasing new versions? I can't understand...

The nvidiavdpauppa11 build in the nvidia-vdpau ppa fixes the fontconfig patch not being applied, and always had the xscreensaver patch.

this bug is about incompatibility with the xscreensaver.
