Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdepim

Renaming a folder via dimap can cause the folder to be deleted.

upstream bug: https://issues.kolab.org/issue3833 "Mails will vanish, if a folder is renamed."

From upstream:

we recently found and fixed an issue in KMail. Under certain circumstances, it
was possible that mails get deleted from the server after renaming a folder
when using disconnected IMAP.

This is obviously a bad bug, and therefore it would be great if you could
include the patch in your packages, if the version you ship is affected.

Affected versions are:
- 3.5 branch
- enterprise branch
- 4.2 branch
- 4.3 branch
- trunk

The KDE 4.1 branch doesn't seem to be affected.

The patch made it into all affected branches already, here are the revision
numbers of the fixes:

3.5: 1022980, 1022986
enterprise: 1021458, 1021464
4.2: 1022968, 1022978
4.3: 1022963, 1022964
trunk: 1022953, 1022954

Anyone who can confirm that the -proposed packages still work, and also fix that bug?

I was able to reproduce the mail folder dropping behavior with the packages from kdepim in jaunty, 4:4.2.2-0ubuntu1, and was not able to reproduce the behavior with the version from jaunty-proposed, 4:4.2.2-0ubuntu1.1. However, both sessions were plagued with application aborts, but I didn't see the data losing behavior that I did from the released version. I also ever so briefly verified that the other applications kdepim provides (akregator, kontact, knotes, et al) still passed a very basic smoke test.

Thanks, Steve. So it seems it's still not ideal, but an improvement.

I'll copy jaunty, leaving v-needed for hardy.

Anyone who could test this? Otherwise I'll remove it from -proposed again.

I have been able to reproduce loosing mails in two instance.

First:
1. Create imap folder
2. Copy some mails in it
3. Sync
4. Add to fav.
5. Rename folder
6. Sync
Now the mails in it are gone.

The package in hardy proposed FIXES this issue.

Second:
1. Sync dimap account
2. Copy mail to some folder
3. Rename this folder
4. Sync dimap account
Now the mail you copied is gone.
However the package in hardy proposed does NOT fix this issue.

The first issue is one from the bug in the description; so the new package does fix some mail loosing problems. I'd call it verified.
