Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

If I use a long envelope, say a 9 or 10 inch long envelope it will start to feed then print ok. But the 6 1/2 envelopes(vertical) feed in past the length of the envelope during the print operation, thus not printing on it. This is despite the correct envelope being selected on the printer configurations. If I situate the envelope horizontally I am able to get a successful print BUT it's not really practical to be sticking a 3 5/8 envelope so far into the printer feed you can't even see it. Plus any thick fingered people probably would barely be able to clear their fingers sticking in the narrow slot 3 inches INTO the printer itself.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: amd64
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx
Package: openoffice.org-core 1:3.1.0-5ubuntu1~jaunty1
ProcEnviron:
 PATH=(custom, no user)
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: openoffice.org
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-15-generic x86_64
UnreportableReason: This is not a genuine Ubuntu package

Can you tell us which printer you are using? Can you also provide us an error_log as described in the section "CUPS error_log" on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems.

There has never been an error that I can remember and looking at: "sudo less /var/log/cups/error_log", shows nothing in the file. THe printer is a HP Officejet 3550. THe jobs are completed and I'm sure Open Office thinks everything is just fine. As I said, it does feed in the envelope and you can see it feeds in way too far, then you can hear it print. Of course it prints on nothing as the envelope already took its trip too far through the printer. If I put a stadard sheet of paper in place of the same job, it prints 9 inches down the page, thus confirming why it's not on the envelope.

With the 9 1/2 inch envelopes(Now on the 9 or 10 inch evvelope print setting) it feeds in and prints just fine. Except it cuts off the first two characters(with the default .039" edge spacing) on all the left side senders address lines. Testing with the same envelope settings but substituting a standard peice of paper, it still cuts off the first two characters on every line of the left margin. So it's not the instability of the printer handling the envelope through its feed.

     Thanks for your help and the hard work you do making open source as professional as it is -and a great choice to Microsofts monopoly. Best Regards, Mark Buric
