Bug Description
The netlink socket for uevents is currently root-only, since all users can read /sys, there's no reason they shouldn't be allowed to listen to the uevents. This then allows xorg and other user-space programs to listen to them.
Future versions of udev will publish updated uevents on a separate multicast group within the uevent netlink socket, replacing HAL.
Applying this patch now would future-proof our kernel for these newer versions of udev.
It's upstream for .30
