Bug Description

Intrepid 64 bit.
Just installed the 180 driver from synaptic. This action removes the 177 driver. Upon reboot looking in nvidia setting the 180 driver is shown to be in use. In jockey-gtk this shows available the 173 and 177 and not in use but no mention of the 180 driver.

And why doesn't jockey find the 180 driver at all in the first place? I had to manually install it.
Now every time i boot jockey comes up telling me it would have some proprietary drivers for me to make my hardware work better; actually the 173 and 177 nVidia drivers. It seems to ignore the 180 completely.
No idea though where jockey gets it's information from.

Can you please run "apport-collect 342230" to collect some debugging data? (and next time, please use "ubuntu-bug jockey-gtk" to file it).

It seems that the 180 version does not officially acknowledge that it can drive your card.

Sorry, but I don't have apport-collect on my system. I have installed the apport package, but this gives me only apport-cli and apport-unpack. Are you sure it will be useful? I mean, nothing is crashing, ...

It is shipped in the "apport" package. Perhaps your jaunty system is too old and you need to upgrade it?

Ah, nevermind, we speak about intrepid here.

The problem is that the driver version 180 was not yet available when intrepid was released, thus the package nvidia-180-modaliases was not installed by default.

Since 180 is available in intrepid-updates, we need to add this dependency to nvidia-common in intrepid-updates as well. This is fixed in Jaunty, opening intrepid task.

Alberto, are you interested in doing this SRU for intrepid? If not, please unassign yourself.
