Removing gcc renders dkms unusable yet it raises no warning in Synaptic

Bug Description

This was the cause of much grief recently as removing gcc (the reasoning was quite sound, this is not a development station and only binary packages are installed) lead to no warning and it meant dkms was of no use. Doubled with a lack of signaling from the jockey package which failed without a warning or error message that meant making the computer unusable but in low-res mode.

Hi Siddartha:

Thanks for the bug report. You only removed the gcc package, not others and
no auto removable, correct?

Thanks,

This bug was fixed in the package dkms - 2.0.21.0-0ubuntu1

---------------
dkms (2.0.21.0-0ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  [ Mario Limonciello ]
  * Don't output useless output on removal (LP: #274792)
  * Depend on linux-headers-generic | linux-headers so that depends are
    resolved for the majority case.
