Bug Description

I am pushing up a patch that assigns the device name, "Dell Digital TV Receiver" to the Dell-branded devices based on USB IDs.

This bug is for the INTREPID kernel and is only for tracking purposes -- I will send a pull request to kernel-team shortly.

Can anyone confirm that the kernel in interpid-proposed is correctly identifying the Dell-branded TV receiver devices?

Has this fix gone upstream and/or made it into the jaunty kernel? Can the devel task be closed?

Thanks.

This is being held back from upstream for now -- I will update the upstream driver once the devices are available for purchase.

Nobody will be able to verify this, as only prototypes are available right now. It was a USB ID change, only so that the Dell branding shows up.

Please feel free to close this bug.

Michael,

Although this patch was in intrepid, Jaunty kernel still missed it because it is not in mainline? Do you have any plan to push this patch to upstream mainline kernel? Then we don't need to port this patch for every release.

Thanks

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately.]

This bug was flagged as having a patch attached. The Ubuntu Kernel Team's preferred policy is for all patches to be submitted and accepted into the upstream kernel before agreeing to merge them into the Ubuntu kernel. The goal for the Ubuntu kernel is to have little to no divergence from the upstream linux kernel source.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelPatches has been written to document the suggested policy and procedures for helping get a patch merged upstream and subsequently into the Ubuntu kernel. Please take the time to review that wiki if this patch should be considered for inclusion into the upstream and Ubuntu kernel. Let us know if you have any questions or need any help via the Ubuntu Kernel Team mailing list. Thanks in advance.

It seems that this was never accepted upstream. It was just a branding change and did not affect the ability for these devices to be detected. Therefore closing off the Development task.
