Bug Description

The new Quick Search feature in Intrepid 8.10 is not functioning on a current, up to date install, 10/12/08.

When I try to do a quick search I am only able to type in two characters and then Synaptic freezes up. If I do a force quit, Synaptic appears to quit but does not. I can not start Synaptic again from the menu shortcut, nothing happens. If I try to start Synaptic from the terminal the ouput tells me that the front end is trying to start. The System Monitor shows that cpu use is at 100% and restarting the system is necessary to bring things back to normal.

Synaptic works as it should in all other respects. I apologize if this bug has already been reported but I was not able to find an existing report containing the same issues.

This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in synaptic.

This can be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are having an issue. I can confirm this behaviour with Synaptic 0.62.1-ubuntu9.

It makes synaptic kinda useless.

I have to add a thing.. for me, differently from that happens to exploder91, for me there is no way to type into the "quick search" space..
as you can see by my screenshot it seems that "quick search" space where to type don't exist..so there is no way to type nothing..
bye and thanks

I have reinstalled 8.10 from a daily build from 10/19 and the issue is resolved for me.
