Bug Description

multiple cups-related packages are having test failures on armhf after time_t transition.
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/c/c2esp/noble/armhf
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups-browsed/2.0.0-0ubuntu9

I am suspecting a common cups-based issue.

cups-browsed already has a separate bug open at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups-browsed/+bug/2059089.

marking critical because these packages are being allowed into the release pocket as-is but the printing stack may be broken, which is of high importance in a server/embedded context.

Debian had added their own cups.pc file to CUPS 2.4.7, overlooking that already in 2.4.6 upstream has introduced a cups.pc file which is much more comprehensive.

This broke the autopkgtest of cups-browsed in noble.

Fixed in cups 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu2.

c2esp autopkgtest still fails with the current cups in noble-proposed - though it appears to fail differently now.

This bug was fixed in the package cups - 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu2

---------------
cups (2.4.7-1.2ubuntu2) noble; urgency=low

  * Remove Debian's own (broken) cups.pc file, CUPS has it upstreanm from
    2.4.6 on (LP: #2059157).

This bug was fixed in the package c2esp - 27-11ubuntu7

---------------
c2esp (27-11ubuntu7) noble; urgency=medium

  * Made c2esp working on both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures with
    64-bit time_t in both cases (LP: #2059157, LP: #2059281):
    - Removed any logging of times in raw (seconds after the epoch) format
as for (64-bit) time_t different integer variable types are used on
32-bit/64-bit architectures. Also the log lines land in CUPS' error_log
which adds human-readable time stamps to each line.
    - In printer keep-alive functions use time_t (and NOT int) for all
      variables used for time calculations.
