Bug Description

This package has been reported as not working for more than 6 years (bug #1502129).

I just verified in a 21.10 VM that indeed the search engines installed by the package are not picked up by firefox. At least one of the reasons is that firefox looks for addons only in /usr/lib/firefox/distribution/extensions (this can be observed in the browser console after changing the 'browser.search.log' to true in about:config). This would be easy to address, but there may be other issues with the package.

Given that:
 - the package is unmaintained (last update in 2012, almost 10 years ago)
 - it has been known not to work for 6+ years
 - with bug #1962021, the firefox packages in jammy are becoming "transitional packages" that install the firefox snap, and the firefox snap won't be allowed to look for extensions in /usr/lib on the host system

I request that the binary package be removed from the jammy release pocket.
