Bug Description

tickcount has no reverse dependencies in Ubuntu and was never packaged in Debian.

It is held in main in the platform.bionic supported-misc-servers seed
python-tickcount with this note:

 * python-tickcount #ChuckShort - server-lucid-canonical-application-support

tickcount is probably unportable to Python 3 (https://bugs.python.org/issue19199). As far as I know it's only there for the benefit of Launchpad, and we can manage via a PPA or a virtualenv, so you shouldn't consider us as blocking its removal. I'll also look at removing our dependency on it.

I see no issue removing this from an ~ubuntu-server perspective, given Colin's comments above. Dustin or David: can you provide a +1?

I'm +1 for demoting to universe. I don't yet see enough justification for removing it from Ubuntu entirely, though.

@kirkland: accumulated justifications:

1) no python3 support (not possible? per c#1) -- which implies we'd remove it eventually anyways

2) no reverse-depends (no consumers)

3) not in Debian, so it's purely technical debt?

I haven't looked to see if there have been many/any bugs over the years, but IMO, the above is enough for removing it.

For now we already agree on demotion from main - and cleaning up the seeds would be a prereq for the removal anyway. So I'll prep the former and discuss the latter sometime this week.

Seed change done, should be demoted (but not removed) on the next runs.
No need for Colin to move to a ppa as it will stay in universe.

If this shall be upgraded to really become a full removal please let us know.

With the Python 2 removals making progress, this is now a candidate for removal from the Ubuntu archive entirely. If you object, please let us know here.

Launchpad no longer uses it as of https://code.launchpad.net/~cjwatson/launchpad/+git/launchpad/+merge/373764, so we no longer need to care.
