Bug Description

Binary package hint: mythtv

On running a dist-upgrade against the current Hardy repos, I get

The following packages will be REMOVED
  bug-buddy libglib1.2 libgnomekbd1 libgnomekbdui1 libgtk-canvas1
  libgtkmm1.2-0c2a libmpich1.0c2 mytharchive mythdvd mythtv mythtv-backend
  mythtv-transcode-utils transcode xmms-jack xmms-jackasyn

Accepted this is Hardy, but I thought it best to flag it as a problem.

Hi Peter:

Thanks for the report. I'm aware that the Hardy package isn't building correctly. It's an issue upstream with GCC 4.2. I won't be able to even attempt to sort it out for a few weeks.

~sigh~

So the situation is that the libglib1.2ldbl transition forces mythtv to be removed but the gcc in Hardy won't build mythtv?

Yeah. It boils down to some new default flags that affect symbol visibility in gcc 4.2. Since we are the first distro to be adapting it by default, we are hit first by it. It's not exactly a priority to the project since we are the only affected distro.

  * New upstream checkout. (LP: #172291)
  * Drop 32_gcc_4.2_changes. No longer necessary.
  * debian/rules:
    - Disable symbol visibility again.
