PPA description

This PPA provides specific versions of software that are not suitable for the mainstream Ubuntu release to partners.

The Ubuntu Backports [1] are the most similar approach to what this PPA provides, all constraints and limitations of Backports on security [2] and stability [3] apply here as well, but in addition to the backport rules there are additional limitations on this PPA. It does not cover the guaranteed functionality of *all* Reverse-Dependencies [4] nor the safe upgrade path [5] outside LTS-to-LTS upgrades.

These packages are not suitable for regular production deployments engaged with Ubuntu Pro support.

The target for this will be all active Ubuntu LTS releases which will get updates up to LTS+2. Then it will stay on LTS+2. For example Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic will gain the last major update from Ubuntu 22.04 Jammy and then stay on Jammy. Due to Jammy being an LTS release itself that will provide updated builds for Bionic until the end of support for Jammy.

The process is mostly automated and described here [6]. With a repository of launchpad recipes [7] rebuilding those backports as soon as the appear in git-ubuntu [8][9] imported repositories.

Adding this PPA to your system
