  * Backports from trunk to fix persistence:
    - Do not use mode= when mounting /cow using persistent mode (LP: #219192).
    - Skip remounting read-only in try_mount as it's unnecessary and breaks
      persistence.  Thanks James Westby (LP: #274076).
