I have the same laptop model. And the same bug. And I get a kernel panic when the lid is closed. Set the bug to confirmed?
Probably won't help much but here is another kernel panic photo... messages are a bit different to the above.

I haven't got the time to check... but I don't recall the bug existing with 64bit Ubuntu, just 32bit.
