The same happens in kubuntu (KDM). ssh sessions to the server will set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH (set in .cshrc here). When using the server over XDMCP will not set LD_LIBRARY_PATH. As a workaround, I added the path to konsole
(Settings -> Edit Current Profile -> Environment)
