Nice find Daniel. My xorg.conf (attached above) which reproduces the bug does not use the old screen ID syntax, but instead uses the new standard "DVI-I-x" where x is the videocard port.
I will fiddle with the screens and ports in xorg.conf and report back with any possible workarounds.
In any case, it's nice to have found the source of the bug. I might suggest a reference be made to the issue in the lucid release notes. Please let me know if I can do anything to provide the release team with any more info or tests that may be helpful.
