I'm using Ubuntu 6.10 and had the same sympthoms everyone else.

I followed comment #23 but it was not sufficient. Swap worked fine but hibernate didn't. After re-iterating I added the entry on menu.lst (like comment #50 recommended):

resume=UUID=<uuid from partition>

And now it works.
