Hum, you first backtrace (in comment #5) looks interesting. We definitely need something like that to catch and fix this bug.
Can you please try to install glib debug symbols and wait to reproduce it? (I tried hard here to get it crash lik you got, it didn't)

PS: yeah, we have an issue with mutter dbgsym not being available :(
