So with the webfont situation I would expect there to be a bit of a time consuming process to get on to the Google font directory, I am sure the font would qualify but licensing and glyph coverage and correctness seem to be things they are serious about validating carefully before hosting it. With the font.ubuntu.com approach we can adopt more of a "just get it done" approach. This would be good from my perspective as I am very keen to get http://ubingo.libertus.co.uk using a webfont deployment of the Ubuntu font by 25th October.
