Thanks for the clarifications, Martin.

The plan was to make the private translations available to the PPA, so that OEM could use them from there.

We discussed it with the Simplified Chinese community and they asked us not to release the private translations to maverick-proposed until they had reviewed them. That's why we didn't want any language packs into maverick-updates.

Kyle tells me that he's spoken to you and that he'll be able to use translations from the current language pack in maverick-proposed, after which it will be removed

Ah, that's true. I thought they had to be exported and the xml files were built by langpack-o-matic. Now I understand that they are simply copied and thus it is not necessary to wait for the export of the PO files.

This however means that if the community wants to modify those translations before they are released in the next language packs, ubuntu-docs will need to be rebuilt with new community-reviewed translations and uploaded to maverick-proposed again. I'm guessing that even if the current ubuntu-docs upload is removed, its xml translations stay parked in soyuz somewhere and they will be the ones used to build subsequent language packs.
