...and if I remove "nomodeset" in GRUB (necessary for install and then fixed in GRUB, I was unaware) then nouveau driver hangs awfullly!

I can then install nvidia-331 and get to use intel on-board after sudo prime-select intel

But still I can't get a desktop with nvidia driver working [blank screen now, though I can get a console to swap to intel driver]

Downgrading to ubuntu-drivers-common=1:0.2.91.4 nvidia-common=1:0.2.91.4 gets me to the login screen [instead of the black screen] and then to a distorted desktop (odd resolution)

Still trying...
