Hi Alexander,
Are You asking me for steps necessary to solve the problem?
If so, the answer is simple - you have to compile the kernel with Wireless Extension that is supported by the Wireless Tools used.
Here's a simple example: If we use Wireless Tools v29, which is compatible with Wireless Extensions v11 to v21, then you have to compile the kernel with Wireless Extensions v21.
Right now you see the following:
ituc@Hobson:~$ iwconfig --version
iwconfig Wireless-Tools version 29 Compatible with Wireless Extension v11 to v21.
Kernel Currently compiled with Wireless Extension v22.
ath0 Recommended Wireless Extension v13 or later, Currently compiled with Wireless Extension v22
It is easy to see that Wireless-Tools version 29 doesn't support Wireless Extension v22. Since v29 is the newest Wireless Tools version, what we have to do is to use Wireless Extensions <= v21 for the kernel.
