thanks for the patch. here is the right place to submit ifupdown stuff as I mostly maintain this upstream anyway. I currently accumulate the patches we need to fix for intrepid and once we are sure they are of high quality forward them.

Your patch looks good from a first glance. I will take a closer look and run some tests.
