I have the same problem. Screen goes black after loggin-in but, if I go into f1 console the screen is OK, then i go back to graphical and everything is OK.

I am running 2.6.27-11-generic and noticed this problem after updating to the 180 nvidia drivers. Is there another bug report for that, couldn't find it
