# xrandr --output LVDS --set BACKLIGHT_CONTROL native

put backlight brightness control back into work on my Lenovo X300 - for the current session. So I created a batch file to run at each startup (attached). Simply put it into /usr/local/share/ and add it in sytem settings -> sessions.

Might not be the most beautiful way to fix it, but hey - it works. :-)
