irclogs. appears to have dropped at the crucial period so I can't link to it, but:

based on Otto's advice, I'm intending to upload the staged commenting-out to natty-proposed; then hopefully with mpt's input there can be some guidance for how to do this /should/ work in an ideal world for Ubuntu 11.10.
