I've tested Amd Athlon64 X2 4600+ on Gusty Tribe1 i386 smp
used this howto https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM

user@amd1-desktop:~$ kvm -no-acpi -m 384 -cdrom /dev/cdrom -boot d windows.img
kvm_create_vm: Invalid argument
Could not create KVM context
