I can confirm that it is annoying when trying a resume after a kernel update. I had to deinstall uswsusp and hibernate before my Thinkpad started again. Afterwards the swap partiton was not readable and had to be reformatted. I propose to prevent a hibernate or suspend to RAM after updating the kernel.
