I tried them, but they didn't make any difference - I still see the problem.
I just noticed a related problem: I have bound alt-l to lock the screen. In
GNU Emacs I use alt-p to bring back previous shell commands, but now alt-p locks
the screen instead. (I run a version of Emacs I built from their CVS repository
rather than the official ubuntu build). Interestingly enough, control-k works
fine in Emacs, even while it's being treated like a control-t by gnome-terminal.
