Apologies in advance if I overstepped my bounds here, but I subscribed Colin Watson in hopes that he can shed some insight on this.
I promise I won't make such behavior a common practice but I feel this is giving Ubuntu a real "black eye" so to speak, and I trust Colin's judgment based on previous involvement with grub2 issues.
