The pdftops CUPS filter script, replacing /usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftops fixes this problem for me (using a Ricoh MP C2000).

Unfortunately, installing the CUPS security upgrade today replaced the script with the original binary blob, which in turn brought the problem back.

Any way to avoid this happening again on the next CUPS upgrade? Can the logic of the script not be incorporated somehow into the original pdftops filter?
