Seems that 'cheese' is causing this, as if I unload and load the uvcvideo stack with:
  $ sudo modprobe -r uvcvideo
  $ sudo modprobe uvcvideo
both ekiga and luvcvideo work. If I start 'cheese', nothing works (except Skype) until I do another unload/load cycle.
