I am seeing the same on my laptop as well. Here are the details:

:) ~ > lshal | grep system.hardware.product
  system.hardware.product = 'VGN-T140P(UC)' (string)
:) ~ > lspci -nv | grep -A1 0401

 Subsystem: 104d:81c0

Will the fix make it into the upcoming release (karmic)? Or should I wait for the next iteration? In the meanwhile, is there somewhere in the startup scripts I can add the alsa+modprobe commands to automatically enable audio when the laptop starts?
