The exact same bug is occurring to me - down to the weird Sound Recorder's behaviour, with Ubuntu 10.04
I tried out the 2.6.34-020634rc4-generic kernel, and though the sliders could be dragged - I still could not record sound.
I am back to the .6.32-22 kernel - since the nvidia driver is not compatible with the newest kernel.
My sound device is [HDA VIA VT82xx], device 0: AD198x Analog [AD198x Analog], just as Irihapeti's.
I have done the apport-collect -p alsa-base 465942, I hope correctly.
