I can confirm that the problem is fixed in the version of aide and aide-common in hardy-propsed, 0.13.1-8ubuntu3, both for new installations and from the released version 0.13.1-8ubuntu1. Some minimal regression testing showed that, after installing the proposed package, aide was able to correctly read its configuration, build its file index, and monitor and detect changes to files correctly.
