Karl, does it happens with Jokosher 0.10 on Hardy? Grab deb package on http://www.jokosher.org/download, double click it, Grant, enter password and install it. Then try steps you mentioned above again and report here back, please.

If you don't use Ubuntu or Hardy, please provide version of distribution and Gstreamer version numbers.
