CupsAndString started as a project to create an MSN client in 128 lines of code, and expanded to a multi-protocol client in 256 lines. This is the ultimate test of an IM library. The MSN only client is based on asabil's pymsn library, and the multi-protocol one uses telepathy-python.

The cupsandstring.telepathy can also be used as a monitor/logger, as it listens to *all* telepathy events over dbus. If anyone wants to write a logging backend, just hack it in :D.
