Install via ppa:

    # remove any older couchdb installs
    apt-get remove couchdb couchdb-bin couchdb-common -y
    apt-get install python-software-properties -y
    add-apt-repository ppa:couchdb/dev -y
    apt-get update -y
    apt-get install couchdb -y
