Bug Description

GTK+ 3.4 has introduced a bug with transparent panels. Specifically, upstream gtk+ commit 7603e6e4 breaks setting the "background-image" style property to a cairo pattern. This is the method that gnome-panel uses to simulate transparent backgrounds.

NB: I logged this bug against gnome-panel because that's where it's going to be seen, but it's actually a bug in GTK -- the upstream bug is against GTK.

Is this bug the reason why indicator applets in gnome panels fail to respect transparency?
