Bug Description

Binary package hint: simple-scan

The Legal setting still produces 8.5" by 11" scans, and therefore cuts off the bottom of pages. Here are the steps to reproduce:

1. Set Document -> Preferences -> Page Size to "Legal" from "Automatic".
2. Place a Legal page in the sheet feeder.
3. Select Scan -> "Single Page" or "All Pages From Feeder".
4. Notice that the bottom of the page is cut off once the scan is complete.

I would expect that a full Legal page would show up after the Legal setting is chosen without the bottom cut off.

After playing with it a bit more, it appears as though the paper size is always A4. It doesn't matter which paper size is chosen. Even the "Automatic" setting, which is supposed to adjust to the paper input, has no effect.

summary: - Setting Simple Scan's "Page Size" to "Legal" has no effect
+ Simple Scan's "Page Size" has no effect

Well, the paper size is not always A4 because with my Epson Perfection 1200, it's a bit bigger. I think it's the maximum imaging size which is the default.

Apart from this, I've found that I can change page size, but _after_ having scanned the first page. It applies then on every page scanned.

It doesn't seem to be saved as default (which is what I'd like).

The resizing is done from the top center, which is not the best way (it's usually better from the top left because you happen to align correctly you paper there).

I see that four of us are affected. Could one of you please Confirm this issue? It's still set to New, and I can't change this myself. Thanks.

I find this too, but in the opposite direction; for my HP3015, scanned document size is always legal, regardless of "page size" setting.

In my case, when scanning 8.5'x11" documents the top 4cm are always cut off no matter how I adjust the Settings/Preferences.

Linux Mint Nadia (64 bit) build, using a Brother DCOP-7065DN MFC.

Simple Scan ignores the desired A4 setting and produces a page that is 355mm long which is the 'legal' or 'foolscap' size instead of 297mm which is A4.

Bug 550856 appears to relate to cropping - which I consider to be a different matter.

BUT SimpleScan doesn't make this mistake however on my HP C5280, so it seems to depend on the particular device?

Bug 550856 is not only about cropping, it is about some major f***up with page sizes.
I do not think it is advisable to split that discussion into smaller discussion until the overall situation is cleared up a little bit.

Your hint that it might depend on the scanner/driver is good, please mention it over there.
I try to talk to Robert if we could spend some time on the general problem.

Best Regards
Michael

More on the issue I have with my Brother DCP-7065DN MFC producing scans that are Legal/Foolscap size despite the page size being set at A4.

The faulty page size only occurs when using the automatic document feeder. Scans of a page laid directly on the glass are correctly sized.
